🎆 OSM at the Olympic Park: Free Symphony and Fireworks (Aug 12)

Wednesday evening, August 12, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal plays a free outdoor concert on the Esplanade of the Olympic Park, conducted by music director Rafael Payare. Now in its 33rd edition and drawing roughly 500,000 people across its run, ItalfestMTL has been going since August 7 and wraps up this Sunday. The festival splits its programming between Little Italy in the Jean-Talon area and the Tranquille Esplanade at Quartier des Spectacles, with street concerts, dance performances, roaming entertainers, hands-on cultural workshops, an artisan market, and a serious stretch of Italian food. Daytime programming is particularly good for families. The neighbourhood energy is genuine and contagious, not the manufactured festival-bubble kind. This is the final weekend, so Saturday and Sunday are your last shots.

OASIS Immersion at the Palais des congrès is running The Immersive Carnival of the Animals through August 30. The experience reimagines Camille Saint-Saëns’s famous composition as a retro-futuristic world populated by half-animal, half-instrument creatures, spread across three immersive galleries, two light installations, and interactive elements that respond to visitor movement. It was designed specifically for ages 2 to 12, and the walkable, no-contact format makes it easy for younger kids. Adults who like immersive art will find plenty to take in as well. Admission is charged; children 0 to 5 enter free.

As summer tips into fall, the Festival des arts de ruelle (FAR) transforms Montreal’s back lanes into a city-wide outdoor art event running August 29 through September 13. Montreal’s alleyways, which most residents walk through without a second thought, fill up with installations, murals, street performances, and live programming spread across multiple boroughs. Everything is free and outdoors. It is the kind of thing that turns a regular Saturday afternoon into something genuinely surprising, and kids who think of alleys as boring shortcuts will be very confused in the best way.
