If you haven’t made it to the Quartier des spectacles yet this week, that needs to change. Francos de Montréal, the largest French-language music festival in North America, is in full swing right now and runs through June 20. The 37th edition brings nearly 150 performances to outdoor stages and indoor venues across downtown Montréal, and roughly two-thirds of them cost absolutely nothing.

Here’s what you need to know.

What Is Francos de Montréal?

Francos is a nine-day festival celebrating Francophone music in all its forms: chanson, hip-hop, folk, electronic, pop, indie, you name it. The main outdoor stage area is at Place des Festivals in the Quartier des spectacles, and it transforms into a massive free open-air concert venue every evening. It’s been a Montréal summer institution since 1989, and this year’s lineup is one of the strongest in recent memory.

🎶 The Highlight Shows This Weekend

The can’t-miss moment of the weekend is happening tonight (Saturday, June 14) on the Rogers Stage. Jean Leloup, one of Québec’s most beloved and eccentric musicians, is performing a special free concert marking the 30th anniversary of his iconic album “Le Dôme.” If you know “Le Dôme,” you know this is a big deal. If you don’t, this is a perfect introduction. Show starts at 9 p.m. and it’s completely free.

Through the rest of the weekend and into next week, the free outdoor stages feature sets from Lou-Adriane Cassidy, FouKi, Koriass, Klô Pelgag, Laurent Voulzy, Emile Bilodeau, La Bottine Souriante, and many more. The lineup spans generations and genres, so whether you’re into indie pop, hip-hop, or classic Québécois folk, there’s something that’s going to hit.

🎟️ The Indoor Shows (Ticketed)

For the ticketed side of the festival, Francos brings bigger-name acts into indoor venues around the Quartier. These sell out fast, so if something catches your eye, don’t wait. Check the full ticketed schedule and availability at francosmontreal.com.

📍 Getting There and Practical Info

Place des Festivals is right in the heart of downtown, easily accessible by metro (Place-des-Arts station). The outdoor shows are free with no tickets required, so you can just show up and find a spot. The area is lined with terrasses, food vendors, and bars, so it’s easy to make a full evening of it. Wear comfortable shoes, maybe bring a light jacket for late shows, and expect crowds on weekend nights.

How Long Does It Run?

Francos de Montréal runs until Saturday, June 20. After that, Montréal barely takes a breath before the Jazz Festival kicks off on June 25 with 10 days of performances at the same outdoor stages. It’s one of the best stretches of the summer calendar, and right now you’re right in the middle of it.
