Clear your calendar, because this is the loudest, most joyful stretch of the whole summer. Fete nationale lights up June 23 and 24 with free shows and fireworks across Greater Montreal, and the very next day the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal swings into action with hundreds of free outdoor concerts. Add a French-music finale and Sunday beats on the islands, and you have a full week of live music that costs you nothing but a metro fare. Here is where to be, with towns and travel times noted so you can plan the night.
🎤 Fete Nationale Grand Show and Parade (Maisonneuve, Montreal)
📍 Where: Parc Maisonneuve, 4601 Rue Sherbrooke E, Maisonneuve (Montreal).
🗓️ When: June 24, gates at noon, parade at 2 PM, Grand Show 8 PM to 10:30 PM.
This is the beating heart of Quebec’s national holiday. The day opens with a children’s zone and food trucks, rolls into the traditional National Holiday Parade in the afternoon, then builds to a massive free Grand Show with a who’s who of Quebec artists, followed by a DJ set to keep the party going to midnight. Get there early, pack a blanket, and soak up the biggest free concert of the year.
🎶 Laval Celebrates at Centre de la Nature (Laval)
📍 Where: Centre de la Nature, 901 Ave du Parc, Laval (about 25 minutes from downtown).
🗓️ When: June 23, evening.
Laval throws one of the strongest lineups in the region this year, and it is completely free. The Centre de la Nature hosts a unifying outdoor concert with Lisa LeBlanc, Richard Seguin, Veronic DiCaire, Ingrid St-Pierre, Ariane Roy and a long list of Quebec favourites. Thousands gather on the grass for this one, so it is a great pick for North Shore and Laval folks who want big-stage energy without the downtown crush.
🎆 Brossard Fete Nationale with Fireworks (South Shore)
📍 Where: Parc de la Sorbonne, Brossard, South Shore (about 20 minutes from downtown).
🗓️ When: June 23, evening.
South Shore families and friends, this one is for you. Brossard sets up an evening of live music, games and a fireworks finale at Sorbonne Park, all free and easy to reach. It is a relaxed, neighbourhood-feeling celebration that still delivers the big bang at the end of the night, so bring chairs and stake out a spot before dark.
🍁 Fete Nationale Across Longueuil (South Shore)
📍 Where: Three boroughs of Longueuil, including Vieux-Longueuil and Greenfield Park, South Shore (about 20 minutes from downtown).
🗓️ When: June 23 and 24.
For the first time, Longueuil spreads its celebrations across all three boroughs, so wherever you are on the South Shore there is a party nearby. Expect shows, family activities and artistic installations on June 23 in Vieux-Longueuil and June 23 and 24 in Greenfield Park, with Saint-Hubert taking the spotlight on June 24. It is a nice option if you want festivities close to home instead of a trek into the city.
🎷 Jazz Fest Free Outdoor Stages (Quartier des Spectacles, Montreal)
📍 Where: Quartier des Spectacles, Place des Festivals, downtown Montreal.
🗓️ When: June 25 to July 4, free shows daily and into the night.
The 46th Festival International de Jazz de Montreal opens June 25 with more than 350 concerts, and roughly two thirds of them are free outdoors. Early highlights on the open-air stages include Patrick Watson, Willow and Saint Levant, plus rising stars worth discovering by accident. Just show up, wander between stages, and let the music find you; this is downtown at its summer best.
🇫🇷 Francos de Montreal Final Days (Quartier des Spectacles, Montreal)
📍 Where: Place des Festivals, downtown Montreal.
🗓️ When: Through June 20.
Before the jazz takes over, the Francos wrap up their celebration of French-language music with free outdoor shows right in the Quartier des Spectacles. Catch the closing night on June 20 for one more dose of homegrown and international French talent across genres. It is the perfect warm-up act for the festival marathon ahead.
🌅 Piknic Electronik on the Islands (Parc Jean-Drapeau, Montreal)
📍 Where: Parc Jean-Drapeau, Ile Sainte-Helene, Montreal (about 10 minutes from downtown by metro).
🗓️ When: Sundays, including June 21 and 28.
If house and techno are more your speed, Piknic Electronik turns the islands into a sun-soaked dance floor every Sunday all summer. Locals and visitors spread out on the grass with skyline views, good beats and an easygoing, welcoming crowd. It is a low-key, feel-good way to close out a music-packed weekend.
That is your soundtrack for the week, from a national holiday blowout to world-class jazz and Sunday beats by the river. Almost all of it is free, so charge your phone, wear comfy shoes, and go let Montreal serenade you. See you at the next roundup.
