Summer isn’t done with you yet. The next ten days in and around Montreal are stacked with things that actually work for families: the last chance to catch Cirque du Soleil’s ECHO under the Big Top before it strikes the tent, a free multicultural festival rolling into Laval’s Centropolis, hands-on science madness for all ages in the Old Port, a sprawling nature cluster on the east side of the city, and a low-key family afternoon to pencil in before the month is out. 🎪 Cirque du Soleil ECHO: Last Chance Under the Big Top (Through Aug 16)

If you haven’t made it to ECHO yet, this is the final stretch. Cirque du Soleil’s current Montreal production runs under the signature Big Top at Quai Jacques-Cartier in the Old Port until August 16, and it is one of the stronger shows in recent memory. The story follows a character called FUTURE and her dog Ewai as they discover a mysterious CUBE and tumble into a world of acrobatics, aerial acts, clowning, and striking visual storytelling. The narrative hook is gentle enough for kids and layered enough to hold adult attention. It runs about two hours with an intermission. Tickets range from standard to VIP (with open bar and premium seating), and Costco has two-for-one bundles if you want to save.

🌍 Festival MOSAÏQUE Laval: Free Cultural Nights at Centropolis (Aug 13–15)

Now in its 6th edition, Festival MOSAÏQUE plants three stages in the Promenade du Centropolis in Laval for a free three-day run starting August 13. More than 25 performances spread across Thursday evening through Saturday night, with an artisan market, roaming entertainment, interactive workshops, and late-night options at Le Balthazar for parents who want to linger after the kids zone out. Thursday is an all-local “Laval or Bust” launch night; Friday and Saturday open from 4 PM with the full program. It’s free to attend, family-accessible in the early evening hours, and a genuinely easy Laval outing since Centropolis has parking and food all around it.

🔬 Montreal Science Centre: Interactive Exhibits Through August

The Science Centre at the Old Port is running a pair of summer-specific highlights through August 31. One is a funny-animal photo series that turns wildlife biology into pure entertainment for kids, and the other is a new set of creative engineering challenges built around famous Montreal landmarks, where kids use real tools to design and prototype solutions. On top of those, the permanent Explore exhibition (giant soap bubbles, water tables, light and motion experiments) and the Arctic-themed Nanualuk expedition are both running. The centre is especially good for rainy days or as a pre- or post-Cirque stop since it’s a few minutes’ walk along the waterfront.

🦭 Espace pour la Vie: A Full Day on the East Side

The Biodôme, Insectarium, and Botanical Garden sit together on the east side of the city and are worth treating as a single day out rather than separate visits. The Biodôme runs five ecosystems under one roof (penguins, otters, monkeys, toucans, more) and is open 9 AM to 6 PM daily. The Insectarium reopened after its renovation with a redesigned immersive experience that includes real free-roaming insects. The Botanical Garden runs through 185 acres of themed gardens including Japanese, Chinese, and alpine sections, and holds free Sunday concert sessions with admission through late summer. Combo tickets are available, and entry is free for children under 5.

🎵 Petit Piknic: The Family Afternoon to Put in the Calendar (Aug 30)

This one’s a few weeks out, but worth booking mentally now before it fills up. Petit Piknic is the family-oriented spin-off of Piknic Électronik, held at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Île Sainte-Hélène from noon to 3 PM. Le Loop Studio takes over the music curation on August 30 for an afternoon of kid-friendly electronic grooves, games, food trucks, and open-air play. Noise-cancelling headphones are available to rent in limited quantities (great for younger kids). Entry is free for children under 12, and the island setting turns the whole thing into a mini adventure.
