The last two weeks of October bring a genuinely strong mix of shows and events in Montreal: a stadium pop spectacle, a beloved comedian, a Leonard Cohen tribute that has been drawing serious praise, and a ballet to close out the month. One of the evenings also has nothing to do with a ticketed show, which makes it worth mentioning on its own.
Olivia Rodrigo: The Unraveled Tour (Bell Centre)
Rodrigo’s current tour has been getting strong reviews for production value and the set list. Bell Centre nights for a pop act at this level have a particular energy, and with two nights scheduled, there may still be availability if you check. Worth looking at secondary market options if primary tickets have sold out.
WHERE: Bell Centre, 1909 avenue des Canadiens-de-Montreal
WHEN: October 20 and 21. Tickets at bellcentre.com.
Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny (Place des Arts)
Jimmy Carr’s stand-up formula is well established at this point, but he remains excellent at delivery and timing. This is a reliable date-night call for couples who know his style. Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier is a good room for comedy.
WHERE: Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Place des Arts, 175 rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest
WHEN: October 20 and 21. Tickets at placedesarts.com.
Thundercat (MTELUS)
Thundercat’s live show is significantly better than recordings suggest. The bassist and producer brings a live band setup that rewards being in the room. MTELUS is a solid venue for this kind of show, intimate enough to feel the musicianship up close.
WHERE: MTELUS, 59 rue Sainte-Catherine Est
WHEN: October 20, 8pm. Tickets at mtelus.com.
The Secret Chord: A Leonard Cohen Experience (Segal Centre)
Running through October 25 at the Sylvan Adams Theatre, this 90-minute tribute production features Divine Brown and Beau Dixon performing Cohen’s catalogue with a live band. The format is a concert-within-a-show: no intermission, seated, and built for couples who actually want to listen. The Segal Centre stage is well-suited to this kind of intimate production. A strong pick for the Oct 18-25 window.
WHERE: Sylvan Adams Theatre, Segal Centre, 5170 chemin de la Cote-Sainte-Catherine
WHEN: Through October 25. Tickets at segalcentre.org.
Les Grands Ballets: A Midsummer Night’s Dream
The Grands Ballets close out October with their Midsummer production at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier. Ballet as a date-night option tends to either land beautifully or feel like an obligation; Midsummer, with its score and light staging, sits firmly in the former camp. Three performances across the weekend.
WHERE: Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Place des Arts, 175 rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest
WHEN: October 29-31. Tickets at grandsballets.com.
Notre-Dame Basilica: Facade Unveiling Concert
Old Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica has been under restoration, and October 25 brings a public reveal of the restored facade. The free outdoor concert at 12:30pm features the Societe philharmonique du Nouveau Monde with organist Jean-Willy Kunz. This is not a ticketed evening, but it is genuinely special: a one-time event in one of the most recognizable spots in the city. Worth building an Old Montreal afternoon around.
WHERE: Basilique Notre-Dame de Montreal, 110 rue Notre-Dame Ouest, Old Montreal
WHEN: October 25, 12:30pm. Free admission.
